Ashley de Jong – Doucette was born and grew up in Ottawa, Canada. Raised in a family which put high emphasis on creativity and the arts, she was always found drawing or doing crafts. From as far back as she can remember she was known as the "artistic" one among her friends, the go-to girl for creative advice. Eventually she enrolled into the Fine Arts program at Canterbury High School, featured prominently as the best high school for the arts in the country in the August 23rd, 2004 edition of Maclean’s magazine.

Throughout her four years at Canterbury, she maintained grades above 85% in all of her arts courses, but it was in visual arts, as always, that she found her niche. For her artistic achievements she received the Grade 10 Ceramics award for the highest marks in the Ceramics class ,the Marjorie Loughrey Award for Overall Excellence in Visual Art and the 2004 Visual Art Subject Award for Highest Grades in the Visual Arts Class. Her hard work in the visual arts program culminated in her receiving the Overall Artistic Achievement Award upon graduation in 2005.

After her High School years, Ashley moved to Toronto to attend York University, and is currently entering her fourth year of a BFA in Visual Arts with Honours. At the university she has become quite involved in the art community, acting as assistant curator of one of the campus galleries, Eleanor Winter's Art Gallery. Most importantly, however, she has had the opportunity to create more art and develop her artistic practice. She has shown her work at a few campus galleries, and has more recently had the chance to show some work in the Ben Navaee Gallery of Queen East, and now has some permanent pieces up in the Cryptic Canvas Gallery at King and Spadina.
